COMMONWEALTH BANK BEACHLEY CLASSIC 2009

The
fourth annual tournament has relocated from Manly to Dee Why Beach and will be
staged in conjunction with a 6-day festival thanks to the Warringah Chamber of
Commerce and local businesses.
Featuring
live bands, performances from Dancing With The Stars celebrities, samplings
from some of Sydney's best restaurants and wineries and a special guest
appearance by Bob The Builder.
Commonwealth
Bank Executive General Manager Local Business Banking, Symon Brewis-Weston,
says that with so much to offer the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic provides
a great opportunity for local businesses.
"This
outstanding event is testament to the small business community and should be
recognised for the significant positive impact it has on the local community as
well as the female surfing community," he said.
The
standalone women’s event will give Sydney-siders the chance to watch the
world’s Top 17 female surfers in action. This year’s event features five new
rookies and also defending champion Tyler Wright (Lennox Head, NSW).
Last
year 15 year-old Wright became the youngest ever surfer to win an ASP World
Tour event as the then 14 year-old Oakley wildcard.
Two
time ASP World Champion and current world no.1 Stephanie Gilmore (Aus) will
headline the tournament which she has won twice previously in 2006 and 2007.
The Commonwealth
Bank Beachley Classic will be staged in conjunction with Events New South Wales
and Blue Kiss. The ASP Women's
World Tour event is proudly supported by NSW Sport and Recreation, Warringah
Council, Oakley and Arrive Alive.
